Embracing the growth of the Spartanburg community and seeing an opportunity to address the need for quality child care in the city, Central Preschool for the Arts was born.
Our Preschool serves children from ages three-months to children turning five-years-old. Our half-day morning program encourages exploration and learning through art, music and movement. Our art focus is immersive down to our youngest children.
Through visual arts we expose children to a variety of artwork and artists and encourage experimenting with various art media in an open-ended way that focuses on the process of creating art.
Music is a part of our daily classroom environment. From listening to classical and world music to making sounds with various instruments-actual and experimental.
Our children are encouraged to express themselves through dancing, acting out our stories and rhymes, as well as directed physical activities.
Nature is also an important element of our preschool curriculum. Nature walks teach our children about the world around us. In the fall, our children monitor the changing colors of the leaves. In winter, study the weather patterns, and observe the renewal of springtime. Our children spend a minimum of 30 minutes outside each day.
LEARN. CREATE. EXCEL.
Way back in 2016 (before Covid was even a “thing”) Central United Methodist Church formed a task force to decide if there was a need for a new preschool in our area. This group saw the future of our city’s growth and recognized the talented Art Community that Spartanburg has become and came up with the concept of a Preschool for the Arts. Next, a Board of Directors was formed and was tasked with “creating the Best Preschool in Spartanburg”. Turns out this is not as easy as it sounds! After 4 years of building community partnerships with our downtown neighbors, raising funds to get us going, navigating a global pandemic and national health crisis, wading through all of the legalities of setting up a child care facility, finding a Director, and researching everything from arts curriculum to non-hazardous cleaning supplies, HERE WE ARE!!
OUR MISSION
Central Preschool for the Arts encourages children to “let their light shine” in a nurturing environment that includes play, creative exploration, and hands-on experiences through the arts.
OUR MISSION
Central Methodist Preschool for the Arts empowers children to “let their light shine” through the arts, in a nurturing and faith-based environment. We encourage both academic and social growth, that is cultivated through play, creative exploration, hands-on experiences with the arts and nature, and engaging cooperation with their peers and mentors.
OUR CHURCH
Central United Methodist Church is committed to loving God and loving neighbor with our whole selves-heart, mind, soul, and strength. We believe that all persons are of sacred worth and dignity as part of God’s creation, as demonstrated by the ministry of Jesus Christ. We therefore welcome all persons into the life and ministry of our congregation. We welcome, affirm, and celebrate people of all races, cultures, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, or faith histories.”

”Before a child talks, they sing. Before they write, they draw. As soon as they stand, they dance. Art is fundamental to human expression.
